Our Academies
Part of the very quality that defines Total’s mission can be found within the physical grounds of our academy itself. When we look to purchase new branches, we ensure that the location will be convenient for many working families, as we know that the parents make up a key part of our Total community. Once we acquire a new site, we very shortly start on the task of making it one of our own. Our gatekeepers facilitate guests while ensuring that children remain safe, and our paint crews get to work in applying the trademark bright orange colors. At all of our campuses, a visitor can expect to be greeted warmly by the front office upon arriving, and once inside can find a science laboratory, teachers’ room, kitchen, canteen, student dining area, multiple bathrooms, lockers, wind turbines for clean energy use, a student tech lab of over 40 computers, and an outside area protected by the shade of a tree or awning. Our computer labs feature such modern technology as Fast Forward, Brain Development, Reading Mastery, and ICT; and the furniture and desk sizes are carefully designed for young learners. As one of our school mottos is “My Success Starts With Reading”, we also have a library at each of our locations were students can enjoy various types of books and a collection of current
international periodicals.
All of our branches bring in cool air conditioning on hot days, are backed up with a generator, and have colorful murals, inspiring quotations, recent photographs, and information about upcoming events upon the walls. The classrooms often come in a variety of shapes and sizes to accommodate different kinds of classes, and most branches have an especially large multi-purpose hall that can be used for more active programs (such as Music, Dance, Wushu, Chess, and Physical Education). There are also play corners ready to welcome children with various kinds of toys, and classes also contain bright and moveable chairs, tables, and cubbyholes. In addition to these student corners, we also have Parent Corners and Teacher Corners. In these places, we post up-to-date information on current school information, and also use them to discuss any questions that come up and respond to information requests or individual updates. All branches are situated within their own private compound, and most are multi-storied with play fields and parking areas outside. If you come at the afternoon rush hour, you can also expect to find a cacophony of liberated learners, and a half dozen Total buses in the inner traffic circle waiting to ferry the young students home! Now that we have discussed what all of our branches have in common, we wish to take a moment to discover how they are different. In the sections that follow, we will take you on a virtual tour of each of our schools, and give you a peek into what a day in the life of a student or teacher may look like here.

Pazundaung
The Pazundaung branch houses one of our Pre Schools. It is about 3250 square feet in acres and located on Anawrahta Road, which constitutes one of the centers of the Yangon downtown districts, with its close proximity to Bogyoke Aung San Lane and Mahar Bandoola Road. It offers a panoramic view and lively atmosphere, and is close to many apartment building complexes where parents live. The school itself is a three-story building with a small outside playground.

Kamayut
Our largest location, which also serves as our overall headquarters, sits upon over two acres of land just off of U Wisara Road, so named after a monk who led an early independence movement against the British. The road is pleasantly lined with trees and is a central location for connecting many of the other outlying townships, including Hlaing, Insein, Mayangone, Mingalardone, Sanchaung, Kyeemyintdine, Ahlone, and the downtown area. It is also an easy walk to several large shopping centers.
There are three main blocks to this campus. The upper block houses our administrative offices and the multi-purpose room. Primary students also make use of classes here, and a large outdoor area with a moveable stage is used for large assemblies and presentations. The middle block features an extended field area for sports and ceremonies, and there are about a dozen tables beside the canteen. A walk down to lower block brings one to where most Secondary students spend their days, and there is also a computer lab and outdoor area.

Sanchaung
The Sanchaung branch has always had a special place in our heart, for it was the very first Total school branch to come about. Located on Pyay Road, we were fortunate to secure a full 10,000 square feet of total space. Pyay Road is perhaps the most famous road in Yangon as it connects all other areas of the city, and indeed goes all the way north to Mandalay. Nestled inside sits an independent compound with an indoor play area and private swimming pool. Because the Sanchaung branch is close by to two large junctions (Hledan and Maynigone), this location is easily accessible by many bus routes.

New University Avenue
TOTAL Kids School is one of our Pre Schools, located in Bahan Township. It is about 9000 square feet in acres and on U Yin Street, a quiet road just off of the busy thoroughfare of NUA. It is located next to Sayarsan Plazan, a famous shop selling quality arts and handicraft. This wide compound is just a short trip from Yankin and Tamwe townships, which are home large residential centers outside of Yangon.
The NUA campus is housed entirely in a six-story building that was constructed specifically as a school, so this modern facility offers the most in terms of student conveniences.

Bahan
Our Bahan branch finds itself on Kaba Aye Pagaoda road, next to the Excel Tower & Shopping Mall. The school itself has an interesting background story that is worth retelling. From some distance away it is possible to see two huge trees on the slope above the school, with long branches and very green leaves. These trees, which are about 120 years old, are believed by locals to house good nat spirits. During Cyclone Nargis in 2008, our city lost an enormous number of old-growth trees. However, we were very fortunate not to have lost these two large beauties, and they continue to give us shade and comfort. Part of one tree actually grows through the school itself, and at its trunk on the top floor we have created a “Story Time Under The Tree” area where teachers sit and read tales to young learners.

Lanmadaw
The Lanmandaw site houses one of our Pre Schools upon 8250 square feet. It is located on Min Ye Kyaw Swar Road, between Panda Hotel and The Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry. has a wide compound, a large indoor playground, and small paddling pool, and is child-safe for the young learners that attend. The building itself is very new and has beautiful rich teak interiors inside. It is close to Chinatown, the downtown Sule area, and Alone Township.

Taunggyi
The Taungyi branch, located at elevation in Shan state (Northeastern Myanmar), is about 60000 square feet in acres. It is constructed on a slope and so offers a beautiful view of the city below. The Taungyi branch is our very first expansion outside of Yangon. A central two story castle-like building contains all of the main classrooms, and beautiful murals adorn the large walls, depicting scenes from Myanmar as well as fantasy images from children’s books. The school is on a quiet street, and is easily accessible both to downtown Taungyi as well as some quiet nature walks and peaceful pagodas.

Parami
Our Parami location is a modern building with a pool and playground. As it is located by Junction #8, it is convenient for families living in North and South Okkala, as well as some of the bigger townships outside of it. The school itself is housed in a new building with a modern design. It is fully furnished with up-to-date facilities, and safety is top quality.

We are always on the look out to expand our Total community to new parts of Yangon, and into greater Myanmar as well. As we describe in our Open Doors section, we want to continue to bring the opportunity of a Total education to more and more communities that as of yet do not have access to a holistic educational experience. Continue watching this space to see where we find ourselves next, and hopefully it will be in a township or village near to you! If you have a specific inquiry concerning your children’s attendance at an expansion branch, please do not hesitate to contact us at tla@brainworksschool.com
